As Strategic IT Lead, Roland is responsible for re-thinking and streamlining IXDS’ IT infrastructure and vision.
A fan of simplicity and thinking out of the box, his aim at IXDS is to find and implement creative solutions for existing and upcoming (IT) problems to make the team’s day-to-day work more seamless. In finding the right balance between technology and humans, he concentrates on what works for the individual, now and in the future.
Prior to this, he was with BCG Digital Ventures, the German Film Museum, Deutschlandradio, as well as the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. He launched his career in system administration (he was once called a “server crawler”, and he hates that he likes the term), and over time began concentrating more on Linux administration.
Eager to learn and, also, hand down knowledge, he continuously taught emerging IT specialist apprentices until 2013. To this day, he is part of the IHK Berlin (CCI Berlin) Computer Science Experts examination board and helps High School students with their business@school projects.
His fifth day revolves around education and skill development. He’s always thinking of new smart home and mini-computer projects. Also, he has a strong urge to improve his language skills – coding (Swift, Python) and verbal (his Duolingo is full of French and Swedish words, currently). Whenever there is spare time, he loves playing the guitar.
