Xmas Special Pre-Work Talk Munich From Sound to Silence

IXDS Munich Ganghoferstraße 68b, 80339 München
Before we get all holly and jolly, we’re inviting you to one final celebration before fleeing for the holiday season! On Thursday, December 6, we’re hosting our annual Extended Xmas Pre-Work Talk with Glühwein, Christmas treats, and heartwarming inspiration for a festive 2018 wrap-up. Best let work know you’ll be coming in late!

Our world is noisy, and the rumble is only getting louder. A lot of our technologies express themselves through sound – as appliances become smarter and more connected, they have more to say. And that’s just the point: integrating sound into an experience can generate stronger connections and more immersive interfaces between the user and the product. But do we really want to create a louder world?

The question we’re asking ourselves, is: As it increasingly features in interaction design across industries, how can we intelligently integrate sound design into the creation of products and services to generate a desirable and lasting impact?

To help us think outside the box and generate new impulses, we’re serving up a smorgasbord for your ears on this chilly pre-Christmas morning!

We’re super excited to announce that acclaimed composer, pianist and sound designer Renzo Vitale will be joining us to sing in the silly season! Hot off the heels of his TED Global talk on The art of possibility: What should electric cars sound like?, Renzo will be sharing his ideas and approach to designing automotive systems as well as his artistic method, which is framed by an exploration of the dichotomy of music and science.

Renzo explores “sonic textures that are able to transmit emotion … connecting feelings and frequencies” that “speak to the character and identity of the car” — or what he calls “sound genetics”.

Drawing on Renzo’s talk and our own, shared experiences, we then invite you to explore the challenges we face in UX and interface design, and how to meet the challenges as they peak!

We’re looking forward to a fruitful discussion with you before we indulge in some merry mingling!

Let us know if you can make it on our Facebook page. Hope to see you there!
